Reflections

I learned and improved a lot during this term with the help of my professor, Ian, who is very kind, understanding and patient with his students.

Now, I have more knowledge on how to properly draft any piece of writing such as essays, articles, and academic papers. Drafting makes your essay a lot easier. If there are no drafts, revising and editing, your piece of writing would be very messy and unorganized. Sure, it’s very time-consuming but the outcomes of it were worth it. With the proper strategy, writing is a lot easier and a lot enjoyable. My drafts were indeed very messy but with the help of my professor and classmates, my final paper exceeded my expectations. Engaging with rhetorical elements from different sources, I gained a lot more information on the topic and I’m able to write better, citing those sources as I know what the author is trying to accomplish with their piece of writing. I learned a lot on how to cite sources, giving credit to the original authors and using their information on my piece of writing.

Using the library’s databases were a big help for me as you can find various genres and topics that you’re interested in. At first, the databases were a little complicated for me, but I get used to it. Learning how to evaluate each source’s credibility, accuracy, and bias, I am able to gather my information correctly and efficiently. Furthermore, I learned that different genres targeted different audiences. Researching can be the most challenging when you’re choosing a topic to write. I spend days on my research and the library database is a very user-friendly website. My professor spends a decent amount of time explaining how to use the database and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.

Ian made us go to conferences individually to give feedback on your process when writing a paper. Personally, those were a huge help for me and my grades. If there were no conferences, my paper would be a huge mess. Sometimes, I had no idea what to write or how to start a paper. Ian helped me patiently. Overall, the class was a lot more enjoyable than I expected and covers the course outcomes stated on the syllabus.
